Man needs God, because in him is his perfect self-fulfillment. Man needs God more than the baby needs the mother. Baby outgrows the need of the mother. Man never outgrows the need of God; he rather ‘in-grows’ the need of God, whatever his age or achievements, whether he is aware of this need or not. To those who feel the need for God, this book is of great help.

It is man that makes or mars any system. What is enlightened citizenship and its characteristics? How can we train ourselves and our children to be one? How do various religions describe such a person? Eminent persons like Sw. Ranganathananda, Chief Justice of India, Archbishop A Fernandes, Dr. M.S Swaminathan, Dr. Raja Ramanna amongst others had shared their views during a series of lectures organized at the Delhi Center in 1980-81, by Sw. From the Preface of this Book
Under the Ramakrishna Mission, there are fourteen hospitals
and more than one hundred dispensaries which are functioning in different places in the country. These are widely spread and include the tribal areas such as Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Abujhmar Jungles (M.P.), remote tribal areas in Rajahmundry (A.P.) etc. Though in most of these centres, T.B. patients are treated along with others, two centres, one at New Delhi and another at Ranchi are exclusively dedicated for T.B. eradication programmes. Though this programme has been going on since 1933, detailed documentation of the work done was not done properly. The present book is an attempt to show broadly the efforts for T.B. Control in India and particularly Ramakrishna Mission's contribution. Though this effort may be considered modest when compared to the magnitude of the problem, yet it is very significant when we consider the dedicated service and scientific approach adopted by the Mission. This compilation shows the involvement of the Ramakrishna Mission in this great effort right from the inception of the T.B. control programme seven decades ago, till this day. It also shows the gradual evolution of the methods adopted to cure T.B. patients commencing from the time when no anti-T.B. drugs were available (i.e. between 1933 till 1948) and present times when anti-T.B. drugs are available (after 1948). However, the aim of bringing out this compilation is not only to highlight the efforts and contributions of the Ramakrishna Mission to the T.B. Control Programme but also to include in it, valuable and illustrative technical and general information of Tuberculosis which should be of great interest and importance to medical students, medical practitioners and general readers. This compilation is divided into five sections tow of them exclusively dedicated to technical and research papers. Several articles included are the transcriptions of the proceedings of a Seminar on Tuberculosis arranged by the Ramakrishna Mission, New Delhi. On the whole, this compilation should serve as an outline of the gradual development and evolution of the T.B. Control Programme in India under government schemes and voluntary organizations.
